Why lo-fi helps you focus

Lo-fi hip hop has a slow, steady beat, soft jazzy harmony and no lyrics competing for the language parts of your brain. That makes it a popular soundtrack for studying, reading, coding and writing, familiar enough to fade into the background, interesting enough to keep boredom away.

Frequently asked questions

Is the music really free and endless?
Yes. Lofi Nook composes lo-fi live in your browser from real recorded instruments, so it never runs out and never repeats. You can also switch to a library of 1000+ free-licensed tracks by independent artists. No account, no ads between tracks.
Which station should I pick?
Study and Deep work for focused work, Reading for quiet books, Sleep for falling asleep (no drums), Chillhop and Morning coffee for lighter tasks, Jazz café and Rainy night for a cozy evening. Switch any time, the music crossfades to a new track.
Is lo-fi music good for studying?
Many people find that steady, lyric-free music with a slow beat helps them focus and blocks out distractions. Pair it with the focus timer: 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of rest.
How does the focus timer work?
It's a Pomodoro timer: focus for 25 minutes (or 15, 50, 90), then take a short break. Every fourth break is longer. A soft chime plays when it's time to switch, and the tab title shows the countdown.
Can I use the music in my videos?
Tracks composed by Lofi Nook can be downloaded as WAV from the Saved tab and used freely (CC0). Library tracks belong to their artists, each one links to its licence and source page.
Where do the sounds come from?
Instruments and nature recordings come from free libraries such as VCSL, Karoryfer, BigSoundBank and Wikimedia Commons. The full list with licences is on the Credits page.
Can I use it like an app?
Yes, add it to your home screen or install it from your browser's menu. Your to-do list, scene and sessions are saved on your device.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, phones, tablets, laptops and big screens. Tap play to start. Music plays through the regular audio player, and you can turn on “Keep the screen awake” in the Focus tab.
